The very green Village that is covered by olive trees is 10km away from the “Clover Junction”

As the traditions of Cyprus are getting extinct, there is a village that is struggling with stubbornness to stay Cypriot. We are talking about the village of Kalavaç which is located at the intersection of Mesarya Plain and Five fingers Mountains.

Besides the water project that was realised recently, improvements made to the village centre and some buildings have changed the face of the village. The main livelioods of the village are agriculture, husbandry, crafts and artizanship. The most important characteristic of the village, which has a population of 300 and 100 houses is the fact that they do not let foreigners to move in or sell a single square meter from the 7002 decares of land they own.

The village which has moderate areas regarding botanics also hosts stream beds, rocks and natural caves. Six scientists from Europe, Turkey and TRNC have investigated the area. The Village also has a centre in which a lot of information, materials and collections are conserved. The village hosts various endemic plants that can only be found there.

Within the framework of eco-tourism, natural walking paths have been established in Five finger Mountains between Alevkayası and the village of Kalavaç with the support of Republic of Turkey Support Committee. This also added a nice atmosphere to the region.

The projects in the village that were realised within the framework of UNDP-PFF programme were financed by the UN and the EU. Projects aim at increasing the quality of life of the people living in rural areas. Efforts to support economic and social development still carried out in the village.

Besides the natural beauties of North Cyprus, Jinni Catacombs that are located by the village of Kalavaç wait to be discovered. Surroundings of the centuries old olive trees were arranged as walking paths. Although some olive trees are old, they still yield as if they are supporting the love of people around.
